August 14, 2006
We did have a good turn out for both the high school tour and the dinner dance on Saturday. Of course, we were very lucky that the weather cooperated both Friday and Saturday. Both days were beautiful. Not too hot, just right!
The tour was attended by about 145 classmates, as a number had asked at the Pig Roast if they could still attend the tour. They were all surprised how much the school had changed. They all seemed to have only good things to say regarding the tour. A picture of the school in 1956 and how it looks now in 2006, was prepared. Everyone received this as they left the tour.
The Dinner Dance was well attended and a few classmates were added at the last minute. I think the final count was 206. Bruce Milnes, Chairperson, David DeBoer, Class President, and Ron Castell, Student Council President were the Master of Ceremonies. Bruce thanked the committee, Dave introduced our honored guests, Sidney DeBoer and his friend, (he just turned 90), Roger Greeley, and Jack Mawdsley. Floyd Oglesby, and Vernon Potts had other commitments. Dave gave background on each of them and everyone gave them a standing ovation.
Ron really did a nice job entertaining us. He had done some research and his humor is always well done. Each took around 3 to 5 minutes so everyone did enjoy them.
We asked the classmates if they would like to meet again in five years and
they said yes. So it looks like we will be planning for 2011. It will probably
be something very casual, no booklet. Everyone took their name tags and I told
them to keep them, and if they do come back to bring them or they can make their
own out on the day/or days we get together. We will continue to keep our names
and addresses up-to-date.
